Sanjay K. Arora is a senior data scientist at AIR. Sanjay’s formal training is in information systems and public policy; he has applied skills in social science quantitative and qualitative research, IT strategy, data management and architecture design, information modeling, text analytics, data visualization, and cloud computing.
Among Dr. Arora's primary responsibilities is the production of original theory, analysis, and research outputs in his area of expertise, innovation policy and management. He has published on the research and commercialization of nanotechnology in the US and abroad; his empirical work uses a variety of sources and incorporates new forms of media, including websites and social network data. He is co-PI of a National Science Foundation EAGER award, which seeks to examine and quantify the strategic orientations of small firms using unstructured text and other data from their websites.
Generally, Dr. Arora is interested in employing and improving the accuracy of computational methods to answer social science research questions—and to improve system capacity to respond to challenging societal problems. For example, recent explorations include how to integrate and use data to study and address the opioid epidemic, chronic homelessness, and recurring incarceration. Other work entails data quality assessment and improvement activities to improve the PatentsView platform, an initiative sponsored by United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Previously, Dr. Arora was an Enterprise Architect and Manager in Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Office. He has also worked for IBM Global Business Services and JSTOR, the not-for-profit digitizer of scholarly journals.
